Compass Family Services
HAN is excited to announce its corporate partnership with local Bay Area organization Compass Family Services, which works to address the growing family homelessness crisis in San Francisco. HAN’s Founder and CEO Susan is a Bay Area native who has seen the region develop and change over the past few decades with homelessness becoming an increasingly pressing consequence of those developments. HAN is also based in the San Francisco Bay Area, so this partnership with Compass is a chance for HAN to engage with the local communities it cares about.
Compass is a century-old organization whose mission has always been to serve the most vulnerable, from migrant workers to homeless youth. Compass’s current communities of focus are families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. At any given moment, Compass serves approximately over 2,000 families. With six main programs centered around reducing and stabilizing families at risk, child development, family shelters and housing, computer literacy and clinical therapy, Compass takes a holistic approach to the families it serves. Compass’s many programs and breadth of knowledge about the crisis ensure that it is equipped to meet and support the each family’s specific needs.
HAN is excited to earmark some of the funds for Compass’s Children’s Center program, which takes care of homeless children ages 0-5 while their parents work or finish school. The Children’s Center’s curriculum and attention to each child ensure that the children receive proper early childhood development at a critical time in their lives - even when the circumstances around them are unstable.
From our experiences and conversations with Compass, HAN has already learned so much about the family homelessness crisis and community solutions to help abate the crisis. We encourage you to learn more about Compass and family homelessness on their website: https://www.compass-sf.org/.
Breast Cancer Prevention Partners
HAN is partnering with Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP), a policy and advocacy nonprofit that works to prevent breast cancer by reducing exposure to toxic chemicals. BCPP is also the parent organization of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a project advocating for greater cosmetics regulation of toxic chemicals.
Part of BCPP's work is educating consumers. Both the BCPP and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics websites share about the toxic chemicals lurking in cleaning products, fragrances and cosmetics. BCPP has guides for preventing exposure to toxins in the workplace, in personal care products and in the family. They also have a Red List of chemicals that are toxic in the cosmetics industry and released an eye-opening Fragrance Report that analyzed fragrance formulas in a number of popular personal care and cleaning products.
BCPP also works on big picture legislation and regulation, co-sponsoring bills and organizing green beauty brands to lobby in California legislature and at the Capitol. Recently, BCPP lobbied for the passage of AB-2775 which requires the labelling of all nail and salon products in California to ensure worker safety. The Safe Cosmetics project also organized the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, which rallied together skincare and beauty brands committed to the toxin-free cause.
Because of BCPP's education and legislation work, HAN found BCPP a natural fit with our mission to share the news about toxic chemicals and engage on a big-picture level with the realities of toxic chemical regulation in the cosmetics industry. We believe that the more people know about the ingredients lurking in their products, the better they can make conscious decisions to keep themselves and their families safe. BCPP has been working on the education and legislation front for decades, so we're excited to learn from their expertise and join their efforts.
Recycle your HAN empties
HAN has teamed up with TerraCycle, a company dedicated to simplifying the process of recycling, to make it easier for you to minimize your environmental footprint. Let's work together to do our part to divert millions of pounds of waste from landfills and incinerators each month.
Simply gather 5 of your empty, full-size HAN cosmetic containers, send them back to us, and we will happily recycle them for you.
What happens to the empty containers?
We ship them to Terracycle and there the containers are sorted, melted down, and turned into small pellets that can be molded and repurposed into new products instead of being sent to landfill.
As our way of saying thank you, you’ll receive 1 free HAN lip gloss or 1 HAN eye shadow of your choice.
How to send empty packaging:
1. Email us at email@example.com to let us know you’re mailing us your empties and we’ll respond to ask for your choice of either a lip gloss or eyeshadow and shade, as well as some basic customer information.
* Please note - we do not take responsibility for lost mail and cannot offer the program reward without receipt of your empty packaging. Also, the product offered from this program cannot be exchanged or returned.
2. Mail empties to:
135 W. 25th Ave. #6611
San Mateo, CA 94403
Thanks for helping to reduce waste and make this world a little more beautiful!
